Life is but a Daydream

Ink painted with a stick on paper

76 x 57cm

The beginning of the journey... this is one of the first large ink paintings I painted. Visually it was inspired by a walk through the rainforest of Mossman Gorge in Far North Queensland. The dance and the birds came through when listening to a song my friend Baby Cool had written and shared with me titled 'Daydream'.

It's hard to imagine how 4 minutes and 11 seconds of music can go on to inspire hundreds of hours of painting. Yet it did. It was the catalyst I had needed to push through all the self doubt and limitations I had put on myself and my creative abilities.I spend a lot of time day dreaming, then I day dream about painting the day dreams, then for so many years I wouldn't paint them. So began a vicious cycle of self loathing as I felt I wasted so much of life living in another world, in my head with no purpose. Baby Cools song helped me to celebrate my other reality and channel it into this one. Which brings me to the title of the exhibition this piece was shown in, as I acknowledged that I do indeed live with one foot in this World and 'One Foot in the Other'.
