Daughter of Conviction
Daughter of Conviction
88 x 66cm - Framed in an elegant Black Shadow Box Frame with Art Glass
This painting is a portrait of a new and dear friend Georgina Duff (soon to be Dear). Ever since I met G in Far North Queensland I’ve been in awe of her fierce determination and ‘get amongst it’ attitude. Not to mention her wicked sense of humour thats had me doubled over in laughter on many occasions. She was travelling in her van up the East Coast, living in old hippy communes, travelling to festivals, doing what you do in your early 20s. Just taking it day by day. Then she met a friend of mine at festival and they fell in love at first sight (no joke I was there to witness it). She then stayed in Cooktown and took on the challenges of living in a remote community in her stride. The man she fell in love with is her crocodile man, a name G and her friends with came up with to call him.
I took this photo of G up in Wattle Hills by the Pascoe River in Far North Queensland. We visited her and her crocodile man while they were house sitting up there. It was a four hour bush bash drive from the main road to the house - thats how remote living it is up there! Mail plane deliveries for supplies and do not forget the toilet paper when you go to the shops because you’ll fast be using the hose to clean your bum if you do! The landscape up there is incredible, inspiring to say the least. We spent in total 32 hours driving there and back and didn’t notice the time pass at all, I was too busy staring out the window. Cathedral sized Ant hills, grass trees, scrub, eucalypt, wattle, maleleuca, native hibiscus the list goes on and on.
To claim that Far North Queensland has stolen my heart is an understatement. Every time I visit I feel a peace in my very being that comes only from that country.
