Finding Equilibrium
The Blue Series was born during my residency in Queenstown, Tasmania. I spent a month at Q Bank Gallery diving into unchartered territory in my creative practice. Pushing myself outside of my comfort zone. I had been experimenting with blue ink but it took leaving my art studio and sitting in a new environment to make it work.
This piece has many layers. In a short summary this piece is about the human ego placing its needs above all. Spending time in Tasmania and learning more of its environmental history was a real eye opener. This piece is about submitting and admitting to wrong doing we have done as a country to our land. You’ll notice the Thylacine isn’t being aggressive in any way. The woman kneels in submission to the Thylacine and places her trust in nature by offering her head (symbolic of the mind, thought and psyche). There is trust the natural world could heal and bring itself to balance if we just gave it a chance.
